President's Message

Eng. (Prof.) Ranjith Dissanayake

Dear Members and Readers,

As we turn the page on another session at the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), I am filled with pride and gratitude for the remarkable achievements we have accomplished together. Over the past year, our commitment to excellence in engineering and our dedication to the betterment of our society have been evident in the numerous initiatives we undertook. From promoting sustainable engineering practices to engaging with communities, IESL has firmly positioned itself as a leader in driving innovation and development across the country.

During this session, we have launched various programs aimed at enhancing the skills of our engineers, including workshops, seminars, and training sessions that align with global standards. We successfully organized the National Engineering Conference, which brought together thought leaders from various sectors to discuss pressing issues and share knowledge. These events not only fostered collaboration among engineers but also strengthened our ties with industry stakeholders, government entities, and academic institutions.

Our advocacy efforts have also been significant. We have engaged with policymakers to promote policies that support engineering innovation and infrastructure development. By actively participating in national dialogues, IESL has contributed to shaping the legislative landscape that governs our profession and industry. This involvement is crucial, as it allows us to represent the voice of engineers in key discussions affecting the future of our country.

However, while we celebrate these accomplishments, we must also recognize the challenges that lie ahead. The development process of our nation is ongoing, and there is much work to be done. Our country faces urgent needs in infrastructure, technology, and sustainability. As engineers, we hold the responsibility to address these challenges head-on. Our expertise is vital in areas such as renewable energy, smart city planning, and resilient infrastructure development.

The path forward requires a united effort from all of us. It is essential that we leverage our diverse skills and experiences to contribute to the national development agenda. I encourage each member to engage actively in IESL’s initiatives, whether through volunteering for committees, mentoring young engineers, or participating in community service projects. Every effort counts, and together we can make a significant impact.

Additionally, as we embrace new technologies and methodologies, continuous learning and adaptation will be key. I urge you to take advantage of the educational resources and professional development opportunities offered by IESL. Staying updated with emerging trends in engineering will not only enhance our capabilities but also ensure that we remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.

While we have made substantial progress during the past session, the journey is far from complete. The potential for engineers to transform our country is immense, and I am confident that with your unwavering commitment and expertise, we can rise to the occasion. Let us continue to work collaboratively, share knowledge, and innovate, ensuring that our profession not only thrives but also contributes significantly to the nation’s development.

Thank you for your dedication and support. Together, we can build a brighter future for Sri Lanka.
